Evoking a sense of contemporary design, this large,
elevated Mt Claremont property is a modern twist
on the traditional family home. The clients and
their two teenage sons required a design that would
accommodate them, and be delivered both on time
and on a strict budget.
Designer Yael Kurlansky and the Yael K
Designs team created a house that is sophisticated
and timeless, ticking all the boxes with four
bedrooms, three bathrooms, a gym, games
room and study.
The south-facing block on the hillside needed
a degree of lateral thinking in order to capture the
northern aspect and surrounding views. Along with
this, the home needed to accommodate an array of
specific needs. A private space for each of the family
members, a pool, and a shoe store (for the client’s
200-plus pairs of shoes) were just some of the many
requirements that had to be planned into this home.
The focus on careful zoning drove the concept,
resulting in a home that offers an extremely high
level of comfort, where function and practicality
have been achieved and exploited.
The house utilises green features such as
rainwater tanks, solar heating and careful material
selections to complement the overall passive
design which capitalises on the northern aspect.
The subtle warm ambience is evident as you
journey through the home, in which a perfectly
balanced use of space and purpose prevails. This
unfolds to the outdoor entertaining area where
the pool, garden and seamless indoor/outdoor
relationship can be experienced.
The completed home satisfies all the clients’
needs and was delivered on time and on budget.
