This acre-sized lot, perched in the Perth Hills
region on a sloping lot, presented a unique
challenge to the DCD team as the client required
ease of access for elderly guests. This determined
the home be designed on a single level.
The brief outlined a medium-sized family
home that offered longevity to house two children
as they grew into young adults. The clients also
liked the idea of a southwest-style home in which
they could retire.
An easily accessible guest suite, good use
of natural light, and optimisation of the garden
and city views were essential to the success
of this design.
The solution was a timeless, contemporary
home that includes highlight louvred glazing
for ventilation and extensive awnings in the
form of cantilevered steel over the full-height,
Glazing was also featured extensively in the
master bedroom, ensuite and kitchen areas,
maximising the stunning scenery while allowing
parents to watch their children in the pool area.
Zoned living spaces provided the children
and adults with their own retreats, keeping
bedrooms and the guest suite to one region.
Living areas were kept to the front of the home
to exploit those spectacular views.
The use of natural materials such as timber
floors and ceilings, and rustic stone cladding
to external piers and fireplace all contribute to
achieving that ‘down south’ holiday-home feeling.
Harmonious living and contemporary designs are combined for these
stunning hillside homes, created by Daniel Cassettai Design.
