Subiaco | Concept Building Design BUILDING DESIGNERS
The marina is surrounded by a vibrant
village activated with ample promenades,
shops and restaurants.
A petite lot of just 220sqm overlooking a small
retail and cafe area in Subiaco necessitated a
design brief in which privacy and maximisation
of space were key.
The owners were downsizing but wanted
to retain the same number of bedrooms and
The design began with three boxes stacked on
top of each other: one for the clients’ bedroom and
retreat; one for their two teenagers; and one for
the communal kitchen and living space.
The modular contemporary design also
needed to incorporate timber and steel, with
the latter used as structural supports while
doubling as a feature of the home. The issue
of privacy was addressed with cedar timber
screening, complemented by Grand Style
cladding to the front facade.
The use of lightweight building materials for the
upper levels meant that it was possible to minimise
the construction time while also keeping within
the clients’ budget.
