From Matthews McDonald Architects come modern,
contemporary and eco-friendly designs for your home.
Nestled in the hills is a contemporary, split-level
residence designed to work with the competing
topography of the area.
Matthews McDonald Architects designed the
home to fit in with its natural surroundings, the
two wings of the house connected by a dramatic
glass link that forms the main entry and provides
glimpses to a large granite outcrop below. The
owners wanted a light and comfortable home that
had to be sustainable in its use of materials for
construction, ongoing energy consumption and
maintenance. The main living areas of the house,
located upstairs, are filled with natural light and
look out over the valley and surrounding trees.
The house is timber-framed and combines
a number of carefully selected materials including
dark-coloured bricks (reflecting the colour and
texture of the granite found on the site) along
with other manufactured materials, including the
cladding and aluminium door and window frames
that add warmth and character to the home.
