The clients’ brief called for a contemporary
and understated, light-filled, solar-passive
design with a strong relationship to generous
and useable external spaces.
These requests were achieved through
appropriate planning and orientation, extensive
energy-efficient glazing (including generous
sliding doors that open up the home to key
external areas), functional building forms and the
selection of restrained materials and finishes.
Finishes and fittings have also not been
forgotten internally, with the use of white
Caesarstone benchtops throughout the kitchen and
bathrooms, and Italian Carrera marble stone wall
tiles featured in the ensuites.
Imitating the crest of a wave over the shower
and bath recess, a low, curved join from wall to
ceiling is covered in aqua-blue mosaic tiles, giving
the bather a sense of being inside a surf barrel.
Solid jarrah floorboards are fitted downstairs,
creating a fluid transition to the tranquil decked
The design outcome illustrates how an
efficiently planned, architecturally designed
home can achieve much more than just the
functional requirements of a house, despite
apparent site limitations.
