he result of a design collaboration
between Robert Forgione and Shaphan
Williams, this mixed-material, split-
level, modern home enjoys some of the most
breathtaking panoramic views of Albany.
Situated on a sloping site, the challenge
lay in incorporating solar passive elements
to the design, despite the orientation of the block
While using the owner’s simple floorplan
sketch as a starting point, Concept Building Design
was given a lot of freedom to design a modern,
solar-passive home that maximised the sweeping
views of Middleton Beach to Emu Point.
The split-level home features upstairs living
areas that take advantage of the views through
large, full-height windows, which give way to a
viewing room-type feel and a sharp-edged look
to the front elevation. The large balcony merges
seamlessly into the living area.
All bedrooms and bathrooms are located at
the rear of the property, with storage and a large
double garage downstairs.
Breaking the mould when it comes to methods
of construction, the Hardie’s Scyon range was
utilised to give the home a neat, modern look.
The mixed use of materials both met the client’s
desires for a contemporary feel while also helping
reduce costs by shrinking construction times.
