“THE BRIEF OUTLINED
THAT OPTIMISED THE
SPACE, CREATING A
GREEN GARDEN WHILE
RETAINING AS MUCH OF
THE AREA AS POSSIBLE
LEFT Rustic copper wall art creates an
attractive backdrop to the garden bed.
ABOVE The table sits undercover for
a beautiful alfresco dining experience.
There was a need to create privacy from
neighbouring properties, so the team planted
Radermachera ‘summerscent’ along the raised
garden beds as a screening hedge, mondo grass
underneath for contrast, and native rosemary
for ground cover. Dichondra repens cascades from
the side of the raised bed that runs alongside the
water feature, and deciduous cherry plum trees
were used along the other fenceline to allow for
winter sun exposure.
The area offers a stylish, relaxed and
contemporary space that suits a busy professional
couple who regularly entertain.
The owners thoroughly recommend the team at
Garden Artisans to anyone interested in achieving
high-quality results. They said the team listened
and delivered professional results in building a
practical, beautiful, stylish and contemporary
outdoor extension to their home.
For this project, Garden Artisans was a finalist
in the Designer Residential Property up to 250sqm
category, and also the Landscaping Contractor
between $40,000 & $120,000 category, at the
Landscape Industries Association of WA 2011
Awards of Excellence.
One judge commented that the well-
presented plan was clear and detailed. The
built-in seat and water feature created an alcove
which broke up the area effectively, and the
project was characterised by clean lines, resulting
in a modern, attractive outdoor living space.
Another judge expressed a high standard of
workmanship was evident in this project. All
walls and retaining walls were well finished,
good-quality plant material was used and the
garden is obviously thriving. All in all, it was a
well-executed, attractive, modern garden which
successfully overcame major site challenges.
