MARGARET RIVER HOME
This home was designed using
passive thermal design principles.
The high ceilings, good natural
ventilation and the polished concrete
floor, which now acts as a heat
sink, provide a comfortable thermal
environment in the summer months.

Floor-to-ceiling glazing contains the
internal environment of this two-
storey home. The living spaces occupy
the lower floor, and the upper floor

MOSMAN PARK HOME
Recipient of a 2011 Australian Institute

Award, this 881sqm wedge-shaped

the sweeping river views while also
being environmentally sustainable.

into each other, visually connected but
still private. A strategically planned
residence that maximises the potential
of the site, little is revealed of the
elevated ground floor, hidden behind
the front entry fence and garage door.

NORTH PERTH HOME
The design of this home ensured the
living areas addressed the garden,
to reinforce the concept of using the
garden as an extension of the internal
living space. Glazing was used in the
open-plan living areas to bring the
outside in, and vice versa.
SIA Architects has more than 30 years’ experience working on residential, commercial
and heritage projects, all with a strong sustainable emphasis.

SOUTH FREMANTLE HOME 170
Built on a narrow inner-city lot, this
home has a spacious feel thanks to its
open-plan design spilling over two
levels. It retains a sense of privacy,
however, with most rooms facing
away from the street and its garden
acting as a screening device.
With panoramic views from large
balconies, energy-saving features
and a sense of the outdoors through
landscape elements that filter
through the home, this residence has
a sleek contemporary look that sets
it apart on the streetscape.
