Take a walk through the desert every day with a new
range of rugs that takes its cue from the Kimberley.
Rug doyenne Jenny Jones has been inspired by our
iconic region in her latest collection of rugs, drawing
inspiration from the ancient gorges, freshwater pools,
plunging waterfalls and red rocky landscapes to
create The Kimberley Collection. “T his rugged and
ancient wilderness provides an abundance of colour
and texture in earthy minerals and unique flora and
fauna, further enhanced by exceptional natural light
– unlimited beauty that is captured in our limited
edition collection,” she says. The collection will be
released in separate limited editions, so it will be an
exciting, evolving range. Bespoke rugs can also be
created. Jenny says the characteristics of the rugs are
“intense and vibrant colours, contrasting sections,
natural weathered forms and different levels of raised
and lowered pile to express surface relief ”. Textures
have been created using relief and different weave
finishes (cut, loop) and materials (silk, wool). Jenny

range (top left). She was inspired by 14th-century
rugs, which she saw in a museum in Belgium and
which had been worn away and backed on velvet.
To replicate the look, she has combined antique
motifs of the past with contemporary panels and
colour stories. Mixing this concept with silk and
rubbing out some of the design, she has created her
own reinterpretation of a timeless heirloom. The range
features Persian-knot handmade rugs in 60 percent
silk and handspun New Zealand wool. Prices start at
$1350/sqm. See this rug in another colour range, p50.
Vinyl-coated wallpaper that’s washable?
American fabric house Thibaut has turned
its hand to wallpapers – vinyl, leather-look,
washable wallpapers. This range of ‘skins’
mimics crocodile (Greater Gator, left), ostrich
(Natural Ostrich, above) and leather (Tuscan
Leather). It comes in a range of colours,
including Espresso, Metallic Gold, Metallic
Pewter, Matt Gold, Burgundy, Chocolate and
Chestnut. The effect is in line with the trend to
bring in nature and is guaranteed to warm your
interior. It also adds a touch of sophisticated
surprise – think the call of the wild on your walls.
