Maximising this long, narrow lot was at
the forefront of the clients’ brief, as were the
exploitation of natural light throughout
the property, and a family-friendly floorplan.
The 512sqm site, with a 9.55m frontage,
required a thoughtful home design that would also
take into consideration the parapet walls on the
existing neighbouring property.
As per the design brief, Grand View Homes and
Korda Design Group created a home to suit a family
with school-aged children, eventually evolving
into a practical layout for young adults needing
their own space.
This was achieved by locating the master
bedroom and ensuite on the ground floor, along
with the main living and entertaining areas, while
the first floor comprises a kids’ zone, with two
generously sized minor bedrooms and a sitting
area separating the two.
The owners were impressed with this
configuration, commenting that this layout
allows the perfect arrangement for all occupants,
for now and many years to come.
A key feature for maximising space in the
property was the incorporation of the parapet
walls into the original design. This allowed for
more natural light along the opposing wall, and
the rear north-facing wall to be almost entirely
made of sliding doors, inviting an abundance of
natural light into the ground-level location where
the kitchen, family and meals areas are positioned.
